Denver - Good morning, everybody! I hope your summer days have been going well. I caught Candy’s article about baseball and wanted to share something with all ya’ll: I am an expert pitcher! Batters are fearful of my wicked pitches! Nasty curveballs dupe swingers silly! And above all, I have a perfect pitching average - I always hit the batter!

I am not kidding you!

HaHa!

I’m just messin’ with all ya’ll. Can ya dig it, ya’know what I’m sayin’?

Anyway .. today, I want to talk about Cuil. It sounds like “cool”. I do not know if it is really “cool” but I guess Cuil is s’posed to be the new “cool” as in a “cool” word that says you are “cool” whilst I am outside, beaning batters left and right.

Cuil!

So, I checked out Cuil. And before I get to that, let me point out that Cuil has only recently begun operating online and probably will improve as time goes by. From what little I have seen with Cuil, the search engine results produced by Cuil are a bit different from Google’s, which may confuse some people on how to sort through the same results.

Still, Cuil is new and different, and if you’re bored with the dog days of summer (at least online), then check out Cuil and please let us know how it worked for you. I added Cuil to my FireFox and will use it side-by-side with Google for the next week to compare the search engines’ results and post the findings later this summer.

Anyway, I have to go now - I need to get to the Broadmoor Golf Course, site of the 2008 Senior Open - but the point of today’s article is that all ya’ll might want to check out Google’s latest competition. It just might be a new way to stay cool this summer.

Denver - Good afternoon, everybody! I hope your summer has gone well. I have been busy conserving fuel by hitch-hiking across the country. It was hot outside! Cars zipped past! People waved and honked! And then I finally arrived at my destination - the newspaper outside the front door of my house!

I am not kidding you!

HaHa!

I’m just messin’ with all ya’ll. Can ya dig it, ya’know what I’m sayin’?

Anyway .. I am sorry I have not blogged much lately. And to be quite honest with all ya’ll, I have been keeping track of the DBC/Deafhood scandal as it continues to grow online.

What I mean to say is that there was nothing new for me to add until just recently. And as is my customary habit, I waited until I had read enough different opinions and perspectives to begin my own commentary/blogging. And then I discovered an interesting twist to the ongoing DBC/Deafhood scandal.

A DeafRead Editor has recently revealed that she was a former founding member of the Deaf Bilingual Coalition and requested/demanded the current DBC leaders - a “trio” of Deafhood proponents - resign from their posts within the DBC. Such is the need for “transparency” that many people are asking the DBC leadership to “come clean” or face further criticisms from the deaf/hoh blogosphere.

Another of the former founding members of the DBC stated the Deafhood Trio had unethically overtaken the DBC leadership. In fact, the reason why former founding members of the DBC waited so long to go public with their demands for transparency has to do with fear and “oppression.” She states:

I felt like going back to square one, being totally oppressed. It reminded me of old days at Gally when everything was nearly always behind closed doors.

The DeafRead Editor has admitted she was not being transparent in regard to the DBC leadership, yet she allowed the DBC’s postings to be picked up on DeafRead. Not too long ago, Rachel was banned by DeafRead, and the explanation states:

The lack of transparency also violates the trust of DeafRead viewers.

DeafRead does not tolerate any deliberate deception by any blogs. DeafRead values its credibility and embraces impartiality by enforcing its guidelines.

The DeafRead Editor remained mum regarding the DBC’s lack of transparency while Rachel’s banishment swirled throughout DeafRead. Instead of enforcing the Guidelines and banishing the DBC from DeafRead (as well as the Deafhood “trio”), the DeafRead Editor choose to hide the obvious and blatant hypocrisy exhibited by DeafRead’s decision to ban Rachel - much like the revelations concerning the Deafhood group seizing control of the DBC leadership.

So, let’s review: the DeafRead Editor has allowed other people to experience the DBC’s “oppression” for as long as the Editor has been a former founding DBC member. And as a DeafRead Editor, in which calls for banishment on DeafRead were issued by DBC leaders, the Editor choose to remain silent about the DBC’s lack of transparency and “oppression” for whatever reason(s).

If people want real accountability, then DeafRead owes Rachel a major apology; and if the Editor truly wants accountability to take place by the DBC leadership in the form of resignations, then the Editor should resign as DeafRead Editor. She should resign because she failed by selectively allowing other people (Rachel) to experience the very same forms of “oppression” “summarily” applied towards herself and other former DBC founding members. Or, she selectively and conveniently allowed the DBC and Deafhood articles to be picked upon DeafRead - despite the clear violation of the Guidelines (lack of transparency) that have been known to her for a long time - and continued to perpetuate the “oppression” she seeks to end.

Anyway, I have to go now - I need to go to the nursery for gardening supplies - but the point of today’s article is not that the Editor may have deceived DeafRead readers and violated their trust by withholding information and engaging in conflicting, double-standards with regard to DeafRead’s Guidelines. The point here is that integrity-driven accountability has to be practiced before it is preached - not conveniently after the fact.

The DBC still sucks!

DUH.

UPDATE: The DeafRead Editor described DBC leaders as (in the same article):

“Instead of being willing to discuss this with the concerned members of the Deaf Community, they attacked those who gave them constructive feedback, using intimidation tactics and utilizing some of theirs followers to speak up for them.”

Let’s review s’more of her comments on her blog dated 7/11/2008:

“The deprivation of fully accessible communication is forbidden in prisons as an unusual and cruel punishment.”

“The Deaf leaders should be able to handle constructive feedback professionally without restoring into negative and destructive attacks to denigrate concerned Deaf people.”

“I hope DBC will continue to be successful. All I am asking is the organization to show transparency, integrity, and tolerance for Deaf members.”

January 24, 2008, I published an article in response to the same Editor’s emotional outburst against a CI-friendly commentator (note: I have long stated the Editor in question has been blatantly anti-CI in her “research” efforts, to which I have alluded as a form of seeking acceptance from DBC leaders)

December 21, 2007 - AGBell.info (DBC web site) - Mr. John Egbert states:

“Paotie,

Look up this,

John”

“I had brain tumor taken out of my head two and half years ago but I feel great. I don’t want to use that as an excuse but I might not be 100 perfect.” - John Egbert

Deaf Pundit (a former founding member of the DBC) issued a complaint to John Egbert regarding Deafhood and the DBC on December 16, 2007:

” .. but you and your friends, all proponents of Deafhood, are constantly preaching that the Deaf Community has to have open dialogue so we can grow”

Deaf Pundit also commented at another DeafRead Editor’s blog dated 6/26/2008:

“And I have to add: I am also very glad to see that DBC has become more professional. This is what the Deaf Community needs.

I wish everyone at the DBC conference good luck, and PLEASE stay safe - be prepared for AG Bell supporters to be hostile to the point of physical violence. Don’t let them drag you into that.”

John Egbert’s 12/16/2007 demand to “REMOVE THOSE DEFICIT THINKERS!”:

“Should someone have a poll and see what the faithful DeafRead.com Blog/Vlog readers feel about the parasites deficit thinkers before 2008 DeafRead Conference?”

DeafRead Owner/Editor states in a DeafRead posting dated 12/17/2007:

“Nor is it about telling you what you can write, and what you cannot write.” [Note: I have been told by more than two DeafRead Editors to change/modify/edit an article of mine]

“Keep your friends close, but keep your enemy closer”

Brian Riley, DBC “core” member states, 12/16/2007:

“It’s also John’s [Egbert] prerogative to try to convince the [DeafRead] owner(s) to kick out the trash talkers.”

Ben .. you asked a great question: “How did the Deafhood group ‘overtake’ the DBC?”

The answer is simple, my friend: DeafRead. Everything stops and starts with DeafRead when we’re talking about Deafhood and the DBC. Without DeafRead, neither organization would be where they are today, as evidenced by the outpouring of alleged evidence against the DBC/Deafhood leadership - which first appeared ON DeafRead (and later went to Deaf Village - as you know, was borne from DeafRead’s lack of transparency).

Be good .. or be good at it.

FoxyTunes is pretty cool. I figure those of you music and video lovers will get a kick out of FoxyTunes because it allows you to control your media players from your browser, rather than having to switch between windows, programs and applications.

Denver - Good morning, everybody! I hope your weekend is going swimmingly. Scientists have explained repeatedly that the Rocky Mountains are split into halves: the northern sedimentary Rockies were created by thrusting faults. The southern part of the Rockies - called the Front Range in Colorado - were created by the faulty thrusting of James Dobson’s massive ego - after he tripped over a crack on the sidewalk!

I am not kidding you!

HaHa!

I’m just messin’ with all ya’ll. Can you dig it, ya’know what I’m sayin’?

(Click here to check out this interesting web site - created in response to Mr. Dobson’s ego-driven missives)

So .. golf! Today, I am going golfin’. In fact, I have a tee-time in 48 minutes. When I say, “tee-time,” I am meaning what happens when hot, blond beverage chicks engage in tight, wet tee-shirt contests at golf courses.

Like many golfers, I took Tiger Woods’ presence on national television for granted. It nearly goes without saying that Woods’ commands huge audience numbers whenever he plays in a televised tournament. In many ways, where Tiger Woods goes, so goes the PGA Tour - and pretty much the entire sport itself.

Woods’ recent win at the US Open at Torrey Pines provided major drama and highlight-reel reruns on every sports channel in the universe. Woods’ battled over five days - including an extra playoff round - with two fractures and a torn ACL in his left leg. He literally limped and grimaced his way to winning the US Open over Rocco Mediate, and then promptly announced he was finished for this season.

Meanwhile, on the women’s tour, the 2008 LPGA US Open is currently being played today in Edina, Minnesota. A newly-minted professional, 23-year-old Stacy Lewis - once forced to wear a back brace due to scoliosis - leads that tournament by one stroke. Check out your television programming to watch the LPGA US Open today.

Also, Mac (Mike McConnell aka Kokonut Pundit) recently published an article about the US Deaf Golfers’ Association and a rule banning cochlear implants and hearing aids from competition. As an avid golfer with a registered handicap, it disappoints me that the USDGA would create such a rule.

Here’s why the rule exists:

QUIET: Do NOT move at all when a player is about to swing or putt.

HaHa!

And! Plus! Soon, the Senior US Open tournament will be played in nearby Colorado Springs. I have not played a round at the Broadmoor, location of this years Senior US Open, but eventually, I will blog about some of the golf courses I’ve played at (including Torrey Pines) and hope to include the Broadmoor’s course, as well.

Anyway, I have to go now - my tee-time is in 30-minutes - and in honor of Tiger Woods’ eloquent body language, let me allow him to demonstrate what I did earlier this morning after I realized I had won $5.00 on a lottery ticket:

Denver – Good evening, everybody! I hope you have been doing well. I have been busy combating Snails that Slime Across the Sidewalk because they are angry! They are outraged! And they are appalled because Deaf Experts around the country have suddenly declared the NAD’s acronym really means, National Audists of the Deaf!

I am not kidding you!

HaHa!

I’m just messin’ with all ya’ll. Can ya dig it? Ya’know what I’m sayin’?

Anyway .. before we get to the meat of tonight’s article, I just wanted to mention the fact that I recently ate an ostrich burger. I had never eaten an ostrich before and the mere thought of eating such an ugly bird was always and forever unappealing.

But! I was super-duper hungry, all ya’ll!

I thought it would be cool to try something different like the ostrich burger but because I was so hungry, a buffalo burger sounded just as good. I hemmed and hawed a good bit and eventually - after about three seconds – decided to let the server decide for me.

Lingering questions are not my style!

The server, who was a short female with short brunette hair and a nicely filled-out body, let me use her pen and a white strip of paper to ask her which piece of meat she recommended. We passed notes along and then she ensured me that the ostrich burger was better - because it was leaner than buffalo.

So, I ate an ostrich patty. It was okay though it took lots of effort to refrain from regurgitating like a mother-bird during a feeding frenzy. It tasted like chewy chicken - I did not find the ostrich to be particularly pleasing to my palate - and to distract myself as I ate, I began looking around the restaurant, reading people’s lips.

I am deaf. And a lip-reader.

Aigh’t?

What I mean to say is that I naturally began to spy on people by reading their lips.

I had earlier noticed two women walking past my table as they made their way around the many, two-seater tables dotting the restaurant. The thing that had caught my eye was the way one of the women seemed to stumble along like a drunken sailor on R&R in a Bangkok discotheque.

I thought the stumbling, blond woman had a broken high-heel or something and then I thought maybe she was drunk since it was early in the evening. I also wondered if she was anorexic or all of the above. And then I settled on the possibility that she was most likely a Republican.

I digress!

The long of it short is that the two women went outside. One was angry and the other twitched around lots. They each smoked a cigarette. The angry woman yelled some more. Then they tossed their cigarettes and walked back inside. And the woozy-floozy blond woman bumbled along again, searching blindly for imaginary poles of support as she barely made it back to her table.

When both women sat down, the angry woman declared, “I am sick and tired of this!”

I had blinked, afraid to miss what would happen next as the woman continued. “Shut your mouth! Leslie! Shut your mouth! We go through this every time we go out!”

I had carefully sipped my iced tea.

“You better call your mother. Call her. Call her!”

That was about the time when I decided that it would be in my best interest for my eyes to move along: I did not want the angry woman yelling at me if she discovered that I had been staring at her a wee bit too long. In the past, when I had been caught reading people’s lips, they sometimes yelled things like, “What the fuck are you looking at?!”

Geesh!

So .. here are some of the other, random conversations that I recorded on my laptop in between bites of my ostrich burger at the restaurant/bar:

Female margarita-drinker to her beer-drinking female buddy: “We’re gonna be the BOMB!”

Boy and Girl sit at table: Girl says, “Fine. You have all my attention. Nobody exists but you. Are you happy now? Can I look at the TV? Huh?”

Four Hot Chicks at a table: a Hot Blond Chick says, “.. guys are such perverts! HaHa! Always throwing money at us! HaHa! Strippers Unite! HaHa!”

“Leslie! Shut the fuck up! Call your mom!”

“.. she’s being a bitch, man. But, this other chick I met yesterday? She is the BOMB. ”

“Jim – you are quite long.”

“Why do you keep looking at that deaf guy?”

“Ugh. Those horses outside smell like .. shite! HaHa! I said ‘shite’ and not ‘crap!’ HaHa!”

“Here’s your change. Please come again.”

“I’m not looking at him! Stop being so paranoid”

” .. wORd! .. ”

“Call your mom! Goddammit, Leslie!”

“Tim, did you feel anything when I accidentally slapped your ass on the 13th hole?”

“I wonder if that deaf guy knows Matt Hamill. He probably does.”

“Daaaaaamn! Look at that woman’s ass!”

“Leslie! Shut the fu- .. What the fuck are you looking at?!”

Anyway, I have to go now - I’m building a Snail Track made out of flypaper - but the point of tonight’s article is that if you are a lip-reader like me, public places are great spots for spying on people. And in the meantime, if you happen to get caught lip-reading, just play dumb - pretend you are a Deaf Expert from Deaf La-La Land!

HaHa!

Denver - The Eitoap Press is reporting that a group of public school students has been arrested for “cruelty” towards Deaf Experts. Eyewitness accounts have stated that ten third-grade students viciously and savagely trounced a panel of self-proclaimed Deaf Experts during a Knowledge Kontest for Kiddos competition held last week near Washington, D.C.

The event, designed to test critical-thinking and reading skills between groups with comparable educational backgrounds, is sponsored by the Great Organization Nefariously About Deaf (GO NAD).

According to GO NAD’s official web site, the Knowledge Kontest for Kiddos (KKK) was created to improve Deaf Experts’ terribly poor logical reasoning skills. Deaf Experts’ Deaf Experts hope that eventually, and one day, perhaps, there will be a legitimately “intelligent Deaf Expert” without the touch of an oxymoron.

GO NAD, founded in 1888 during a riot in a public bathroom, hopes the KKK provides outreach awareness and community support for the few and long-suffering Deaf Experts around the country.

HaHa!

I’m just messin’ with all ya’ll. Can ya dig it, ya’know what I’m sayin’?

Anyway .. Deaf Experts. Right. There’s too many of ‘em online, ya’know what I’m sayin’? I mean, if the only requirement to be an expert included the fact that a person was/is deaf, then everybody’s an expert. Anyone with any hearing loss would be an expert.

And then, there are people who buy a book, interpret the book, the author and his beard, and then declare that they are the end-all-be-all expert of Deaf Expert La-La Land. In fact, more often than not, a Deaf Expert will declare that all people who disagree with him/her/it are “Dysconcious thinkers! They must be banned - those deficit thinkers!”

And then some Deaf Experts preach fatalistic self-help concepts like, “D.I.E.”

Recently, a Deaf Expert opined on Deaf Expert La-La Land that because Deaf Experts suck at English, we should always forgive Deaf Experts when they repeatedly screw up the interpretation of a thought, a comment, a process, an argument, an educational paradigm, a book, a movie, and/or a fly that landed in somebody’s Deaf soup.

“Please forgive me for being a deficit thinker,” he said in rather ranting rhymes, “because we suck at English!”

And then there are some Deaf Experts who join little tea-time clubs with fancy names like, “ASLWinkWankers”, and declare themselves “intelligent” and “Deaf Experts” because they intend to “rule the world with delusions of grandeur.” Ironically, one ASLWinkWanker is employed by a deaf educational institution.

Which leads me to another type of Deaf Expert: the kind who are militantly ironic. These types of Deaf Experts find their way into deaf schools and engage in “warfare” against “hearing people” and have no qualms in identifying their hearing “lesbian, African-American friend” for selective discrimination purposes.

By attending a Deaf Expert seminar, you (deaf or not) can become labeled as a “minority” rather than a “hearing” person. If you are not a Deaf Expert and happen to make a Deaf Expert needlessly angry, you must buy a $5.00 “Get Out of Deaf Hell Card” - your “minority” status - or you will become the target of a stupidity-based witch-hunt led by Deaf Experts.

Which finally leads me to the Deaf Expert Duo that runs Deaf Expert La-La Land: according to their own statements and those made by their supporters, the inability to produce logical and sound explanations for any decisions or statements was borne out of the fact that neither were/are proficient in English. In fact, a Deaf Expert over the weekend declared that the two gentlemen were complete ass-wipes, unable to do anything right because their English represented dysconciously colonized and employed volunteers of deficit thinking.

The point of today’s article is not that Deaf Experts have to have perfect English to make a valid argument: the point is that Deaf Experts should not smoke poorly-made joints outside during windy days.

Anyway, I have to go now - I need to get my time in on the Wii before the girls start complaining, again. In the meantime, don’t forget to check out the new PGA 2008 US Open Champion, Tiger Woods (who else?).

By the way the final score at the Knowledge Kontest for Kiddos:

Public School Third-Grade Students 144 .. Deaf Experts 1

(The shut-out was averted after Deaf Experts correctly spelled “audists”)

Be good .. or be good at it.

Denver - The Colorado Springs Gazette online edition has published a report this morning featuring a story about a deaf wrestler vying for a chance to represent the United States during this year’s 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Roger Stewart - deaf since early childhood - is aiming to perform well at the US Olympic Wrestling Trials to earn a spot on the US National Wrestling Team. The Trials will be held in Las Vegas today and throughout the week.

According to the news report, Stewart is the first deaf person to qualify for the Wresting Trials and is seeded 12th despite being an experienced veteran in his 121-pound weigh class.

“I’ve always seen myself as the underdog. Being the only deaf person there motivates me more.”

Stewart, deaf since early childhood, has developed a unique advantage over his hearing competitors: sign language. In fact, his coach will oftentimes yell one set of instructions to him whilst signing another set of instructions to Stewart, causing confusion for (hearing) opponents and their coaches during matches.

Stewart is a 3-time USA Deaf Wrestling Association national champion and has finished sixth at both the 2004 World Deaf Wrestling Championships and the 2005 Deaflympics.

Denver - Good evening, everybody! I am sorry for the long delay in posting an announcement regarding the new aggregator site that many of all ya’ll have been wanting for a long time. In the past 48 hours, from across thousands of miles apart, a number of bloggers and myself have set up a new web site for people with hearing loss to have their blogs’ articles aggregated for the purpose of sharing ideas, perceptions, thoughts and feelings - without interference from harassing Human Editors.

We apologize for the delay as we are not yet completely done with the site, in part because of all our busy schedules, and also in part due to the sudden development that led to the creation of the new web site.

The site is running and mostly functional, and will be completed within the next week or so. We still have much work to do but in keeping with our promise to create the new web site, we are rolling it out tonight. So, please bear with us as we continue to develop the new site.

Also, I want to apologize to the MANY readers who emailed me over the past few days and have not yet heard from me. I have been out of town and busy with my own various projects and unable to respond to you, but I will in the next few days - I promise.

Finally, I want to acknowledge and thank all of you readers for the support you’ve shown towards us, and we will do our best to give you a quality product that will enhance your blogging experiences - free from harassing Human Editors.

Denver – Good evening, everybody! I am sorry I am late to posting tonight – Squirrels that Run Up the Tree have been shooting pretzels of iron logic at my house! They are outraged! They are appalled! And they are protesting because I am affiliated with Verizon Wireless – I sold Rachel some cool stuff and got “bonus points” to fly to Hawaii!!

I am not kidding you!

HaHa!

I’m just messin’ with all ya’ll. Can ya dig it, ya’know what I’m sayin’?

Anyway, I want to briefly talk about DeafRead and Rachel. DeafRead banned Rachel because an Editor there is prejudiced against people with cochlear implants, English and Peru. Well, maybe that’s not true – the Editor is also using DeafRead in accordance to Sprint Relay’s political ideals and values, especially towards the DBC, Deafhood, and Peru.

I am not finding fault with DeafRead at all – I am just stating the facts. Most articles appearing on DeafRead are selectively screened before being published and there’s no disputing that fact.

I also know from experience that some Editors think too highly of themselves, as if they were able to exert influence over the way I published my articles. Twice, Editors have demanded I change a word in an article; and a couple other times, a picture caused grave consternation, which resulted in two choices: 1) change the offending word/picture, or 2) DeafRead would not publish it.

Of course I didn’t change anything for any Editors. What I mean to say is that nobody should have to change for DeafRead or its Editors – Human and Non-Human.

I do not have a whole lot else to say about DeafRead, really. It used to be a good idea and all that stuff but apparently, DeafRead is nothing more than a way for Sprint Relay to make money at the expense of the Deaf Community.

I don’t like corporate sellouts, so I took my blog’s feed off of DeafRead for that reason.

Anyway, on to better things ..

Good times! Great vibrations!

Are all ya’ll ready to begin a whole new way of blogging?! Are all ya’ll wanting to join in with a group of people wanting to promote inclusion, awareness, and tolerance of/for/by people with hearing loss?!

A number of bloggers and myself have banded together and we have toiled day and night to bring you a new web site. It will reflect our goal of enriching the Deaf Community through the sharing of experiences, ideas and thoughts – free from harassing Editors.

We are nearly done building the site, and for the most part, need to wait for the domain to finish propagating through the Internet (which is the main reason for the delay of this announcement). We are excited to bring this to you and hope you will enjoy the opportunity of a whole new and positive blogging experience.

Until the site finishes propagating, the official unveiling of our new site will be postponed. As of right now, it may be tomorrow (Friday) or by Saturday at the latest (we hope), but we will keep you updated.

In the meantime, we would also like to encourage you to leave your blogs’ RSS feeds in the comments here on Paotie’s Green Couch so we can include you in the Grand Opening of the new web site. If not, that’s fine, too - no pressures and no worries.

By the way, I am sorry for making many of you wait so long but I promise it will be worth the wait.

You’ll see ..

Be good .. or be good at it.

Denver - Good afternoon, everybody! I just received an email from a reader of Paotie’s Green Couch that provided a link to an apparent censorship of a joke performed during the 2008 MTV Movie Awards Show. The link from MTV shows the unedited version of the skit, performed by James Franco and Seth Rogen, of the two actors pulling out a bag of “weed” before a national audience and smoking “joints” whilst on stage during their presentation.

Apparently, and according to Franco, MTV asked the actors to perform the marijuana-smoking skit on stage:

“MTV wrote it! … Then backstage there was this big commotion: ‘You guys can’t say that,”‘ Franco said. “It says right in the script: ‘Lights fake joint.”‘ - Seth Rogen
