Thursday Blackout!

Courtesy: http://flickr.com/photos/djll/48370509/Denver - Later today, I will be out snowboarding somewhere in the central Rockies in Colorado. And like golf, snowboarding is one way that I can “level the playing field” without needing to hire attorneys, protest, hire advocacies or whatever else. In fact, there is no more honest way to determine your skills than snowboarding down steep mountain slopes without anyone to help you, warn you, or even interpret for you. If you fall, it’s your fault. If you make it down the mountain in one piece, it’s your fault. But mostly, I love snowboarding because it’s so much fun, liberating and above all, the hot girls in hot pink make me hot!

What the HECK are you doing here!?!? I told you NOT to come here yesterday, didn’t I?!?

Yesterday’s post said:

DO NOT COME HERE!

But, what’d you do? You showed up! You .. you .. people! Have you no shame!?!

*laughs*

Gotcha!

So, instead of reading more of my writing, I decided to give you a few blogs/vlogs to check out today whilst I’m out snowboarding and scoping the hot pink outfits that hot girls wear on the ski slopes. Consider this a public service announcement of sorts - I intend to do my part to make the world a better, happier, friendlier and apparently, pink world.

Onwards!

In random order, the first vlogger is Seek Geo, and he makes great videos that belong on the Discovery Channel (makes me wonder, maybe we should all start yelling at Discovery Channel to hire Seek Geo to make documentaries?). And another thing about Geo - he’s very open-minded and has even gone the extra mile to provide captioning on his vlogs for those people not fluent in ASL.

So, check him out today if you can. Click here to see Seek Geo.

I made a new friend yesterday, too. She found my blog and in return, piqued my interest in her own blog, so I checked it out. Let me tell you something about my friend, Patty - she is a true survivor, and still, if you look at her blogs and her attitude, you can see this is a woman who has a beautiful soul.

She finds the beauty in life where most other people would not. And the world is a much better place - at least mine is - for having people like Patty in it.

Somewhere in the romantic countryside of Tuscany, in Italy, lives an American mom with her deaf son, who also has a cochlear implant. Jodi is the exotic American living in Italy, who also happens to wear “tight” jeans and other things best left to Paotie’s imagination.

Regardless, I happen to like Jodi’s blogs because I think it’s quite cute that she would be so girlie-girl happy when a young girl sent Jodi’s son a flirty text message. Now, this is important to me, because when I was in high school, I actually (true story) won a HUGE trophy for “Biggest flirt.”

And since Jodi is a big flirt .. Click here to see An American Mom in Tuscany.

The next blog came from pink-lovin’ readers in yesterday’s article (telling you, NOT TO COME HERE), and why this blogger isn’t on DeafRead remains unknown to me. Anyway, if one of Paotie’s readers liked it, then it was enough for Paotie to check out (let’s not encourage Paotie to begin speaking in 3rd person, okay? It can be quite addictive for you - not Paotie), and so Paotie did.

And this web site has beautiful pictures, in fact, if you check out the blog’s pictures today, you might even see why I liked the web site, too. Can you guess it?

Paotie’s PostScript: Apparently, rumors are circulating around DeafRead that some of the editors want DeafRead to be exclusively ALL Deaf All The Time. Let me explain something to you readers - one editor left a comment indicating the he was watching the comments throughout DeafRead after a few people pissed in their pants about CI-related articles.

My response is this to the editors:

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I’ll be watching you

*laughs*

What are YOU laughing at? YOU weren’t supposed to even be here today!

*looks at you*

HaHa! You all have a great day today, and I will see you all later tonight or tomorrow. It is now almost 4:00 a.m. and I’ve got to get going here since I have a long drive and hope the mountain passes aren’t closed, although if that happens, there’s more than enough ski areas to find later - that’s why I’m leaving at such an ungodly hour.

And yes - today’s picture has been brought to you by the Pink Crowd here on Paotie’s Green Couch. Thanks for the inspiration!

In the meantime ..

Be good .. or be good at it.
:)
Paotie

Er, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but it’s mighty cold out there. Almost froze my ears off on my commute this morning in Denver. Yer just gonna be courtin’ disaster if you go up in the mountains on a day like this.

Yeah, that Tuscan blogger is really … well, I better not say it, but it’s cool that she writes Italian.

JS

ha, ha, ha

it made me happy

Dang– I want to go skiing now!

oh rats…I did good this morning not going to your website til I got to DR. Paotie….you bad bad boy!! Ya threw a lure at me and I took the bait!! :P Well, I hope you made it to the slopes and are having fun barreling down the hill side (watch out for avalanches!!!) while I go out riding on our motorcycle in sunny 60 weather on the east coast.

LOL LOL! Well, stick a fork in me! I’m done… totally done falling in love with this Paotie and his blog!

What a man and character! Vim, verve and vitality! We all need this in our lives. *HUGS*

DH enjoys your blog as well,

Tactile love,
Patty oxox

The CI issue took over DR? That’s too bad. It’ll happen again and again. Later on it’ll be about stem cells then it’ll be about deaf doctors performing CI surgeries.

Richard Roehm

LOL

You really got me. ;)

Paotie, my bad, pinky guy!

You broke your rules, oh well, I admit that I broke your rules! That’s because I want to be with pinky commenters.

First of all, I want to congratulate to Seek Geo, Patty, Jodi and blackcore! They are Paotie’s of the week!

Seek Geo is one of my favorite vloggers. He’s wonderful. He considers for others so that way he have always provided captions for all of us. I love him to death!

Patti is my inspiration! She’s deafblind and made into her wonderful blog.

Jodi—-she is very smart. She’s using the analysis to reach the opinion and psychology stuff….I like her alot.

Blackcore made many beautiful pictures that made the theory and analysis. Amazing!

Where are you, Mike McConnell?!?! We need to drag him to get here, so that way Paotie will be very happy to see him in this blog. Mike McC. needs to take a course, Pinky 101 at Harvard.
You have made my pinky day! It was actually my idea for throwing the pinky all over Paotie and sure enuff, Paotie, you got the picture. It’s really you! You got yourself a pink lipstick! You really did! Whoo-oo, I am using the pinky towel!

*Pinky Smacky*

White Ghost

*Laughin* I’m usually good at following directions, but hey “Thursday Blackout” was too tempting not to click on!

Have fun snowboarding!

Candy

:o)

I was out all morning anyway and at the end I said to myself, what the heck!

Ha, ha… pink guy!

Karen Mayes

Oh, pfft about the fear of CI/oral v/bloggers taking over DeafRead .. .the pendalton (spelling? a kind of weapon?) swings from ASLRead to CIRead and back forth. *Shrug*.

Karen Mayes

Yeah, Karen,

I already emailed to all the DR editors to show how much I am disappointed in Jared’s response to Cy, the Deaf tea time blogger.

All Jared was agreed with Cy’s. He did *not* doing his neutrality zone.

The more, the less.

It’s no MLK’s dream.

White Ghost

If you can recall Jared posting a vlog ..

He mentioned something to the effect.. “If we wanted freedom of speech, we have to give it.” However, in this case.. isn’t Jared playing catch-22 moderating freedom of speech?

Paoooooooootie,
*licking my juicy lips* I am soooooo honored to be a flava!
Smack, Jodi

Comments:

1.) I believe Blackcore is on DR’s list. I do remember reading his blog about how he drove across the U.S. and got an house/apartment in Bishop….will have to check that out.

2.) DeafRead IS FOR ALL DEAF PEOPLE from CI, Hoh, Late Deafend, deaf, Deaf, deaf & blind, cued speech deaf, SEE deaf (if that even exists), and (insert whatever else I missed here).

3.) White Ghost, give Jared a chance to respond to your E-mail. We all got it, but I felt that Jared should respond to you directly. I think he’s flying to San Francisco today…unsure…

4.) We haven’t even discussed any format changes yet. We are watching all the vlogs and comments. If we ever do discuss a format change you all will know about it.

5.) I am jealous, Paotie…you didn’t invite me to go boarding? I am only 10-12 hours from Colorado Springs…ask me next time OK?

6.) Sorry for reading your site today…I couldn’t resist like others! :0)

J.J. Puorro

JJ –

Please re-read what Jared said in Cy’s Deaf tea time blog.

“DR is moving *TARGET* and we can change with time.”

Meaning that the DR is keeping eye on the CI users/bloggers to take over the DR.

DRs are using their weapons on CIs.

Jared *NEEDS* to watch his language.

White Ghost

Yeah, I viewed that as a red flag. The problem is that the minority of deaf people… ASL users… will always be just as it is… the minority. And they know it and they want to change it. So we need to find the common ground, especially with rapidly growing population of successful CI users, meaning we have to EMBRACE them. The hearing parents are doing their part, pointing to us, letting their child/children know that they have two worlds, not one world. We have to give the parents credit.

I am sure that JJ will do his part to keep that the balance is here, equal number of v/bloggers (ASL and CI). For some reason, I trust JJ…

Karen Mayes

Well my blog was not picked up for this posting. Maybe I did not use the magic words.

Oh I did not come to visit all day until I read a comment on Jodi’s blog. I had to come and see. I even had a snow day!!!!!! so no school. You know what teachers love most - snow days, summer vacation, and last days of school!

A funny thing happened today… my son came home, and asked me to guess what. I said, what. He said he got zapped. Mind you, that I know almost next to nothing of how preteens talk… their lanugage is different. I asked what he meant by being zapped.

He gave me a look and then carefully explained that zap meant a girl asking a boy out. Ohhhhh… a hearing girl asked him out. I asked what he said. He said he thanked her, but he did not know if I’d allow him to date until he was 16…. aaaagghhhh… haha.

Karen Mayes

Sooooo, I’ve been reading your blog today, catching up so-to-speak, after noticing your comment on Mishka’s Blog.

I am the parent of a CI child. He passed his newborn screening so we did not find out that he was deaf until he was 17 mos. old. He turned 3 on Monday. I have been here before but was scared away by those that abhor CI’s and the parents who allow them to be put in. However, your past blogs make me feel more comfortable about coming here to learn, more about the deaf and the deaf culture. I do want to do right by my son and let him know that he does have an identity with the deaf. After all, when the implant is off, he is deaf. So thank you for speaking on behalf of all who are deaf.

We don’t have to agree, but we can be open to looking at other sides of issues.

So thanks.

KP

Welcome KP to this wonderful blog world of Paotie…I just joined in and am having a good time reading and learning myself!

“stick a fork in me…” oh, I’ve come undone!!! ha ha ha…so funny you are, The Expirate, had me laughing hard my tummy hurts.

Ok, have ya’all seen what Tayler wrote, along with few others, about the latest issue with AGBell? (go to Deaf Read and read about AGBell’s comments to PepsiCo about the upcoming ad. Yep, it is true that AGBell does not encourage sign language learning for parents in addition to speech/auditory training for deaf babies who may have the ability. Hope the blog sphere will change that for parents who happen to link up with the deaf community and see a different side.

Divided

FYI –

Jared and I corresponded via emails about his comment in Cy’s Deaf tea time blog.

He pointed out that I made the *mis*intepretation about his language. I told him no. There are several commenters who complained about his language in Paotie’s two recent entries.

I told him that his language in Cy’s Deaf Tea Time blog was misinterpretation and misunderstanding. He needs to be very careful with his language.

All he defended himself over his comment in Cy’s deaf Tea Time.

White Ghost

Hi y’all!!

I was here earlier to read the post but had to rush out to do errands.

Aww.. I’m blushing that I’ve been mentioned on Paotie website! Thank you, Paotie! ;-) To think that just less than a year ago I was welcome to the whole Deaf community but now they slammed me only because I provide captions on my vlogs which hurts me.

Now with wonderful loyal readers of mine along with Paotie, White Ghost, C, Ann_C and others who backs me up and give a lot of supports which means a LOT to me.

Now I feel better knowing you people are here for me. So, I am taking my time on here to say THANK YOU! That’s the main reason I love coming in here because we all can be open to each other to discuss our different opinions without attacking. We all can be different and still friends.

How dare Paotie goes snowboarding today and I wasn’t invited!? Jes loves to snowboard, he finally talked me into going for the first time a couple of years ago.. even though I fell down and hurt myself twice which I couldn’t walk for 4 fricking days! He..he… but I still had a lot of fun! We might go again soon, I hope.

Tell all when you get back!! :-D
You all Rock!

-SG

Paotie

Awww, DR fan thinking of SeekGeo. It is the reason why I always sent to my relative and keep read the subtitle it is part of good reason to hearing people read your subtitle is part of any kind of hearing loss or deaf or my family member is not always sign ASL. We are aparted alot of time with my member family. So they can read what is SG’s common sense are so funny.

I love and he is inspiration to our heart. I know why Paotie love your vlogger mostly. White Ghost, too and something that SG’s vlogger love his friendly and without attacked on his vlogger.. Nice to have Paotie’s story about Geo. I did wrote on someone’s vlogger about SG. I was sooo angry from what I saw and it is digusted and cannot stand two people say bad thing about him. We know We will be there for Geo’s attuide were so positive. he is move on easy! He is not fear and strong man!

Hugs,

Deaf Pixie

I’m sorry Paotie,
I’ve never been good at rules. It was nice of you to mention the other bloggers. I had not noticed Expatriate’s blog before and I LOVE her. I hope you have a nice time snowboarding. I used to live for skiing every winter until I hurt my knee in my mid-forties. If I were younger, I think I would enjoy snowboarding.

OMG, that! that pink snowboarding Marcel Marceau!!! With a sun-reflecting umbrella and day-Glo bracelets!!! Don’t tell me you hit the slopes in that neon pink get-up, that’d really have had snowboarders rubbing their eyes, wondering WTF. Whoo-hoo!

Well, I finally moseyed in here just past midnight Mountain time, Paotie. I was a good twit. Actually I’ve been working madly to meet a deadline for a client today, and didn’t have time to drop in. I did pause at Kim’s and Mike’s sites today during short breaks.

Yah, been following blackcore since he left on his journey, and he was enroute to CA when he snapped this beautiful series of sunset photos and posted them, really spectacular photos. Also have been following Jodi’s blog and the ongoing travails of her son’s puppy love. And SeekGeo’s jellybean episode was a funny blast.

There’s more to life than just deafness, folks. Think we take ourselves too damn seriously– there’s a lot going on right under our noses.

I think Paotie (the atheist) is reminding us that it’s getting close to Mardi Gras time. Get that feather boa or long scarf and whip it up in the air, whoop! whoop!

Ann_C

Well I was a good boy and that was rare for me. I did not visit your siste yesterday as you demanded. Although I saw the teaser on DR but I knew it was bait and so I skipped right over it but it was TEMPTING! So here it is 6 am in the morning and im finally getting some pink fix.

Hope you didnt break a leg or anything as we really want to know the result of your experiment.

About being zapped… I mean that the female commenters are zapping you a lot, huh? ;o)

Karen Mayes

I just got back from CochlearImplantOnline.com and I wanted to say one thing about this… I think Rachel is a brave young lady and her blog is inspiration for many parents. But what saddens me is that a few commenters are like bulldogs, preaching ASL as the be all for deaf people, not recognizing that CI people are ACTUALLY happy without ASL, being busy with their own lives, rubbing elbows comfortably with hearing people, etc. Check out http://cochlearimplantonline.com/blog/?p=28 .

Karen Mayes

Lolypup– Paoties research was to see who in DeafRead follows rules. I failed.

kim

You nominated two of my favorite bloggers! :) I love Jodi and seek geo!

I wear pink too!

Thanks for mentioning Ambling Rambler. She’s my friend. She hasn’t had an implant in her head for seven months and has spent this past half year with a 140 db hearing loss. I’ve been waiting to find out if she gets one in the other ear. This is public knowledge since she blogged about it, but she’s been having a rough time of it– and makes the most of it with her great sense of humor and awesome talent with the camera. :-) I LOVE her.

I also agree with you about JJ. He’s the only one of the editors who dialogs with me or any of us, so he’s on my favorite people list. NO wait– Mishka is nice to me too– so she’s on my favorites list also.

Karen– I agree that Rachel is brave, but I also wonder about the purpose of all this blogging. She’s young and I keep thinking that maybe she’s finding her identity and voice when she blogs about others with cochlear implants? Just a thought. . .I dunno. But I agree she’s brave. I can’t say I completely agree that there’s NO need for ASL when you have an implant. If it were me I would want to know ASL for those times when I was in or around water, but then I’m kind of a beach/water person. I LOVE kayaking and snorkeling. When I was younger I loved waterskiing. I can’t imagine my life without those activities, or not being able to communicate while doing it.

Kim–

When the day comes with the new technology relating to the water, everything will be “normal.”

However, I know many people are afraid of using the experiment. I hate to say this, I hate to see the scientists are using the animals to save our lives. I love animals.

You know about the feeling I have…… :-/

White Ghost

Yes I do know exactly how you feel because I am vegetarian and I hate that animals get hurt–especially chimpanzees because they are so smart. Have you read the book “Hurt Go Happy” White Ghost? It just breaks my heart what they put chimpanzees through. To me, it seems almost like experimenting on little children.

I stopped eating meat after I saw videos of chicken farming. I almost stopped eating eggs too, but I will eat uncaged eggs. I already knew about cattle and slaughterhouses and had not been eating red-meat for a long time. Knowing that fish are left to dry out, and flop around until death or are bopped over the head doesn’t make me feel much better about eating fish either, so I don’t eat fish. My husband worked on a fishing boat through college, now my daughter’s boyfriend works on a fishing boat in the summers. It’s still the same thing. Dangerous for the fishermen and the fish are killed by clubbing and so on. Well I guess it’s just me, but I don’t want people killing things so I can eat. So I only eat vegetables and dairy products from animals raised humanely without being given tons of hormones and chemicals– the way they’re supposed to live

Gonna eat at Chili’s tonight. Can’t decide what I’ll eat. Steak or Ribs?

I raise chickens, they are my pets and I have zero problem eating chicken. Not mine of course. But seeing how they are? I feel ZERO guilt over eating them. They are vicious creatures and have no problem killing one another. The stories I have, good Lord.

Mike, if you’re going to Chili’s tonight eat some Southwestern Egg Rolls for me, would ya?

Oh man, Southwestern Eggrolls! I thoroughly enjoyed them when I was pregnant with my daughter, along with Reeses… yummy!

Karen Mayes

The last time I ate at Chilies (which I don’t think they have in the Northwest) was at the airport in AZ coming home from Mexico. We met my parents there because we had a layover and they live near Phoenix. Their vegetarian fare wasn’t very attractive, but they would substitute any burger for a black bean burger. So I ate one of the those. Oh MY GOD. Shortly after I got the runs so bad. (I know– y’all don’t wanna hear this) Turned out I had picked up a parasite in Mexico. At first I thought it was the black bean burger. The parasite lasted six weeks and I was finally had to see a specialist and take some really high dose antibiotic to wipe it out. I don’t ever think I’ll eat at Chilies again.

We’re going to Phoenix in Mar. People act like they have to fix something special for you if you don’t eat meat. I keep telling my mom I’m fine. Just get some vegetables, friut, nuts and hummus. What’s the big deal? At home, when I make spaghetti, I cook a little ground beef up for hubby, make the sauce in a separate pan. His gets beef, mine doesn’t. He eats steak, I eat potato. Sure cuts down on the food bill! :-)

Where’s Pinky Paotie? Is he chasing after that woman in pink on the slopes? He’s such a player.

Stacey– I used to feel the same way about rabbits– not vicious exactly just the stupidest animals on earth. They were meant to be eaten. But. . .I have a lesser problem with people hunting meat in the wild than farming it to be eaten. I know, weird. It’s just that animals in the wild do get to live wild their entire lives and often meet violent, slow painful deaths. Farmed animals are not treated all that kindly on farms. I’m just not into it. And I think we can feed more people more efficiently on vegetables, which are better for us anyway. But I don’t have a problem with others eating meat. Like I said, my entire family eats meat and I fix it for them. This is just my personal preference and I don’t judge others who eat meat. Lean meats are good for you too. Some people don’t have the time to mess with a vegetarian diet.

I go in and out of spells of not eating meat. I always end up having problems with my joints when I’m not eating it. I limit myself to white meat poultry and fish and have had moments I thought I was going to hurl cooking dinner for my family. That said, I don’t judge anyone who wants to follow a vegetarian life style. To each his own.

Ahh, Mexico. Some of my best food poisonings happened there. Our annual summer trips always ensured me a good 10 pound weight loss each year. Haven’t been back for quite awhile, I miss the easy dieting. Of course being almost dead sucked.

I love Mexican food. I used to live in Texas and many restaurants do not provide the sour cream on the Mexican food. When I was in Mexico for vacation, I love to eat the “real” Mexican food, but not the water itself.

When I moved to east coast, I was surprised to see that every restaurants have provided the sour cream on the Mexican food.

Pinky Paotie? Dunno. He has the top secret about that woman. :-/

At least we are supporting the breast cancer foundation. Be proud of it……

I am gonna be the roadrunner. Zoom! hee, hee, hee.
